A multidisciplinary medical team at Dr. Soliman Fakeeh Hospital – Madinah successfully performed a laparoscopic appendectomy for a patient in her 26th week of pregnancy, maintaining the full stability of both mother and fetus.
The patient arrived experiencing severe abdominal pain. Following clinical evaluation and diagnostic tests—including ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)—acute appendicitis was confirmed. Given her pregnancy stage, the medical team decided to perform a laparoscopic appendectomy using minimal incisions, minimizing surgical exposure and promoting swift recovery.
The surgery was carried out collaboratively between general & laparoscopic surgeons, OB/GYN specialists, and anesthesiologists, with continuous monitoring during and after the procedure to ensure the vital stability of mother and fetus and guarantee the highest levels of safety.
