A medical team at Dr. Soliman #Fakeeh Hospital – Madinah has successfully performed an image-guided radiofrequency ablation (RFA) for a benign thyroid nodule on a patient in her 20s. The patient had been suffering from neck swelling for six months, which caused difficulty in swallowing and impacted her quality of life.
Following comprehensive medical evaluations and a biopsy, results confirmed that the nodule was benign. Based on her condition, a tailored treatment plan was established using image-guided radiofrequency ablation through a micro-incision measuring no more than 1.5 mm, eliminating the need for open surgery or major surgical incisions.
The procedure was completed with full success, and the patient was safely discharged in stable condition. This milestone highlights the potential of modern, minimally invasive technology in treating certain thyroid nodule cases with minimal intervention.
The medical team supervising this case was led by Dr. Wael Al-Hujaily, Consultant Interventional Radiologist, along with Dr. Ahmed Al-Taifi, Consultant Anesthesiologist, Dr. Islam Abdelghany, Anesthesia Specialist, and the dedicated nursing team.
